Naver is reportedly paying bloggers 10 million won a month.

I thought I misread it at first..

But it's real.

And it's not going to just one or two people.

Naver unveiled 110 'Special Naver Mate' creators.

There are 10 categories.

Travel, food, recipes, style, tech, life, culture, media, insight, hobbies.

Each category got 1 lead creator and 10 standout creators. So 10 + 100 = 110.

The money is serious.

  • 10 lead creators — 10 million won a month
  • 100 standout creators — 3 million won a month
  • Both are 'additional' support on top

The existing Naver Mate stipend was 300,000 won a month.

From 300,000 to 10 million.

That's a whole different order of magnitude..

This isn't prize money. It reads more like a signal that Naver desperately wants something.

Why is Naver paying this much

One answer. 'AI search.'

Naver is pushing its own AI search — 'AI Briefing' and the 'AI Tab.'

The problem is the opponents are ChatGPT and Gemini.

Win on raw model performance? Honestly, that's a stretch.

So the card Naver played is UGC.

UGC means user-generated content. Simply put, writing by actual people.

The stuff piled up in blogs and cafes.

Google and OpenAI can't easily get this.. it's Korean, written by Koreans, from things they actually lived.

The numbers prove it.

Special Mate content has been cited 660 million times by AI Briefing since January.

660 million. In half a year.

AI needs raw material to build answers.

Naver decided to pay creators directly for that material..

So what kind of writing does AI actually read

This is the important part.

Naver spelled out its criteria — 5 marks of 'valuable content.'

  • ① Knowledge from first-hand experience
  • ② Consistent topical expertise
  • ③ Honest authenticity, no falsehoods
  • ④ Structure that's easy to read
  • ⑤ Kept up to date

Reading them stings a little.

There's one thread running through all five.

Every one takes a person actually living it and building it up..

So Naver is building AI search while betting its money on writing that needs a human hand. Ironic — but it adds up.

What bloggers should take from this

If you write anywhere — a blog, a cafe — the game has changed.

The goal used to be clear. Rank at the top of search.

Stuff in keywords, tune the title. That got you there.

Not anymore.

The goal moved to getting AI to cite your writing.

We're moving from an era of climbing search rankings to an era of being cited by AI.

Sounds scary, but the method actually got simpler.

What you actually lived through. On one topic. Honestly. Readably. Consistently.

It's not about tricks. It's about writing straight.

In the end, only writing that reads like a human wrote it survives..

I'm changing one thing starting today. Don't write about what I haven't done.
