You can build an AI chatbot without writing code. The real question is how far the free tier goes.
Using Dify, a commonly used no-code option, here is what works and what stops, based on its published pricing as of August 2026.
How far the free plan goes
Dify calls its free plan Sandbox. These are the limits listed on the official pricing page.
- 200 message credits (paid plans say 5,000 per month; the free tier carries no monthly wording)
- 1 team member, 5 apps
- 50 knowledge documents, 50MB of knowledge storage
- 10 knowledge requests per minute, standard document processing
- 3,000 trigger events, up to 2 triggers per workflow
- 30 days of log history, 5,000 API calls per month
The message credits matter most. Dify describes them as credits "provided to help you easily try out different models from OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, xAI, DeepSeek, Tongyi in Dify."
So you can start without your own API key. But once the 200 credits are gone, that is the wall. Continuing means connecting your own key or moving to a paid plan.
Korean is supported in the interface; the language menu on the official site lists it.
The build order
Dify presents three building blocks: Workflow Studio, a visual builder for agentic workflows; Knowledge Pipeline, for preparing searchable knowledge bases; and a Marketplace of tools, models and integrations.
For a support chatbot, the first two are enough.
- Load documents such as an FAQ or company profile into a knowledge base — 50 documents and 50MB on the free tier
- Create a chatbot app and set its role with a system prompt
- Connect the knowledge base to the app so answers are grounded in those documents
- Test the conversation in preview, then share it as a link or web widget
The thirty-minute claim assumes your documents are already written. Writing the FAQ is separate work.
What it costs past free
The next tier, Professional, is $590 per workspace per year: 5,000 message credits a month, 3 team members, 50 apps, 500 knowledge documents and 5GB of storage.
Team is $1,590 with 10,000 credits a month, 50 members, 200 apps, 1,000 knowledge documents and 20GB. Annual billing is listed as saving 17%.
There is a no-cost path too. The Community Edition is open source and self-deployed with Docker, limited to a single workspace under the Dify open source license.
In short: 200 credits are enough to try it, and anything customer-facing means paying or self-hosting.
Either way, answer quality comes from the documents you load, not the tool. A thin FAQ makes a thin chatbot..
