제미나이의 '캔버스'는 요청을 적어 앱을 만들 수 있는 기능입니다. 구글은 캔버스에서 문서와 앱, 슬라이드, 코드를 만들거나 고칠 수 있고, 만든 것을 오디오 개요나 퀴즈 같은 다른 형식으로 바꿀 수 있다고 안내합니다. 다만 공유 버튼을 누르기 전에 꼭 알아 둘 게 있습니다. 공개 링크를 가진 사람은 누구나 그 앱과 관련된 데이터를 보고 수정할 수 있습니다.
네이버 지식iN에서 '챗GPT 코딩'으로 검색되는 질문은 9월 24일 기준 1,403건, '바이브 코딩'은 563건입니다.
■ 캔버스를 여는 법
캔버스는 로그인해야 쓸 수 있습니다. 입력창 아래 파일 추가 메뉴에서 '캔버스'를 누르고 요청을 적으면 됩니다. 슬라이드처럼 특정 형식을 원하면 요청에 그 형식을 넣으라고 구글은 권합니다. 예로 "다음에 대한 슬라이드 프레젠테이션을 만들어 줘", "다음에 대한 이해도를 테스트하는 퀴즈를 만들어 줘" 같은 문장을 들었습니다.
■ 앱은 말로 고치고, 코드는 직접 볼 수 있다
앱을 만들고 나면 어떻게 다듬을까요?
요청 칸에 바꾸고 싶은 점을 적으면 제미나이가 앱을 고칩니다. 고칠 부분만 골라 물어보는 것도 됩니다. 캔버스 오른쪽 아래 '선택 후 물어보기'를 누르고 커서로 영역을 고른 뒤 원하는 변경을 적으면 됩니다. 바뀐 내용은 자동으로 저장됩니다.
코드를 보고 싶다면 오른쪽 위 '코드'를 누릅니다. 코드 화면에서 직접 고칠 수 있고, '콘솔 표시'로 미리보기의 오류와 로그를, 최근 변경사항 보기로 무엇이 바뀌었는지를 확인할 수 있습니다.
앱에 AI 기능을 넣을 수도 있습니다. '제미나이 기능 추가'를 누르면 글과 이미지를 만드는 제미나이 기반 기능이 들어갑니다. 이건 로그인과 함께 만 18세 이상이어야 합니다.
■ 문서에서 앱·웹페이지로
문서 작업도 됩니다. 캔버스에서 글을 직접 고치거나 요청으로 고치고, 고칠 부분을 고른 뒤 '수정 제안'을 받을 수 있습니다. '길이 변경'으로 원하는 길이를, '어조 변경'으로 친근하거나 정중한 정도를 고를 수도 있습니다. 위쪽의 이전 버전, 다음 버전으로 저장된 버전을 오갈 수 있습니다.
만든 문서를 다른 것으로 바꿀 수도 있습니다. 오른쪽 위 '만들기'에서 문서를 맞춤 시각 요소나 앱, 인포그래픽, 웹페이지, 퀴즈, AI 오디오 개요로 바꿉니다. 다만 이 기능은 현재 만 18세 미만은 쓸 수 없습니다.
■ 공유하기 전에
만든 것을 공유할 때가 가장 조심할 지점입니다.
구글은 공유 가능한 공개 링크를 만들면 그 링크를 가진 사용자는 누구나 앱과 관련된 데이터를 확인하고 수정할 수 있다고 적었습니다. 이때 검토하는 앱 정보로는 사용자 간 데이터 공유, 제미나이 기반 기능 사용, 시간에 따라 무언가를 기록하는 앱처럼 세션과 기기에 걸친 데이터 저장이 나열돼 있습니다. 개인 정보를 기록하는 앱이라면 링크를 함부로 돌리면 안 된다는 뜻입니다.
공유 말고 가져가는 방법도 있습니다. 공유 및 내보내기에서 구글 문서로 내보내거나 내용을 복사할 수 있고, 파이썬 코드는 코랩으로 내보낼 수 있습니다.
남이 공유한 캔버스를 받았을 때도 알아 둘 게 있습니다. 공유 링크는 웹(gemini.google.com)에서만 열리고 모바일 앱에서는 열리지 않습니다. 열면 사본을 만들어 이어서 고칠 수 있고, 활동 기록 보관이 켜져 있으면 그 캔버스가 내 제미나이 앱 활동에 저장됩니다.

Gemini's Canvas lets you build apps by writing requests. Google says you can create or edit documents, apps, slides and code in Canvas, and turn what you made into other formats such as audio overviews or quizzes. Before you press Share, though: anyone with a public link can view and modify the data associated with that app.
On Naver's Q&A service, a search for 'ChatGPT coding' returns 1,403 questions and 'vibe coding' 563, as of September 24.
■ Opening Canvas
Canvas requires signing in. From the add-file menu below the text box, click Canvas and write your request. For a specific format such as slides, Google advises saying so in the prompt - for example, "Create a slide presentation about..." or "Create a quiz that tests understanding of..."

How do you refine an app once it exists?
Write the change you want in the prompt box and Gemini updates the app. To target one part, click Select and ask at the bottom right of Canvas, select the area with your cursor, and describe the change. Changes save automatically.
To see the code, click Code at the top right; you can edit it directly, use Show console to find errors and logs in the preview, and show recent code changes to see what changed.
You can add AI features to the app: Add Gemini features inserts Gemini-powered text and image generation. This requires signing in and being 18 or older.
■ From document to app or web page
Documents work too: edit text directly or by prompt, select a passage and get Suggest edits, and use Change length to pick a length and Change tone to pick how casual or formal it sounds. Previous and next version buttons move between saved versions.
You can transform a document, too: from Create at the top right, turn it into custom visuals or an app, an infographic, a web page, a quiz or an AI audio overview. This is currently unavailable to users under 18.
■ Before you share
Sharing is the point that needs the most care.
Google says that if you create a shareable public link, anyone with the link can view and modify data associated with the app. The app info you review lists sharing data between users, using Gemini-powered features, and saving data across sessions and devices, like an app that tracks something over time. An app that records personal information should not have its link passed around lightly.
There are other ways to take your work out: export to Google Docs or copy the content from Share & export, and export Python code to Colab.
When someone shares a Canvas with you: shared links open only on the web at gemini.google.com, not in the mobile app. Opening one lets you make a copy and keep editing, and with Keep Activity on, the shared Canvas is saved to your Gemini Apps Activity.
