Want to make a picture with AI but unsure where or how? On Naver's Q&A service, a search for 'making AI images' returns more than 18,000 questions as of September 24.
First, not every AI draws. According to Anthropic's help center, Claude does not generate photos or illustrations the way image-generation tools do; it builds diagrams, charts and interactive visuals in HTML and SVG within the conversation, and can view and analyze images you upload.
To make pictures you need a service with image generation. This guide follows Gemini, for which Google has published detailed tips on its official page.
■ Where to open it
In Gemini, open the tools menu and choose "🍌 Create image." The model menu offers Fast mode, Thinking mode and Pro; then enter a prompt or upload an image to edit.
Paid plans have one more step: Google AI Pro, Plus and Ultra users can pick "Redo with Pro" from the three-dot menu to regenerate with Nano Banana Pro.
Google says image generation is available in every language and country where the Gemini app is offered. It is limited to users 18 and older, and limits apply.
■ Start the request from a formula
What should you write first?
Google's starting point is a simple formula: ask for an image of a subject, an action and a scene, then develop the idea from there. Its example: "Create an image of a cat napping in the sun on a windowsill."
The second tip is to be as specific as you can: "a young woman in a red dress running through a park" beats "a woman in a red dress." The more detail, it says, the better Gemini follows the request.
The third is composition, style, quality and aspect ratio - where elements go, the visual style you want, the quality level and the ratio. Google's example: "Generate an image of a fuzzy, spiky porcupine flying through space, in an oil-painting style, 2:3 aspect ratio."
■ Not happy? Ask for changes
You do not need the perfect picture on the first try. Google says that if you do not like a result, ask Gemini to change it - a new background, a different subject, added elements - while keeping the details you like.
The editing options are described concretely: turn day into night, adjust the camera angle, shift the focus to make the subject stand out, borrow texture, color or style from a reference photo, and resize to the format you need.
Text works too: clear lettering for logos, invitations, posters and comics, in multiple languages.
■ What you make carries a mark
Images made with Gemini come out marked as AI-generated. Google says it uses a visible watermark alongside an invisible SynthID watermark to distinguish them from original human-made art.
You can check an image, too: upload it to the Gemini app and ask whether it was generated with Google AI, and SynthID is used to verify it. Images, audio and video are supported.
This differs from the Claude approach covered in an earlier piece: Claude attaches C2PA provenance information to files, while Gemini puts a watermark in the image itself. The methods differ, but both aim to mark what AI made.
■ In short
- Claude does not make pictures - it makes diagrams and charts and analyzes images you upload
- In Gemini, start from tools > "Create image" - choose Fast, Thinking or Pro
- Begin with subject, action, scene, then add detail
- Specify composition, style, quality and aspect ratio
- If it is not right, name only what to change - the rest stays
- Output carries a visible watermark and SynthID - 18+, with limits
