휴대전화의 구글 포토 앱으로 AI 사진 편집을 할 수 있습니다. 구글 포토 안드로이드 앱에는 원치 않는 물체를 지우는 매직 지우개, AI로 사진 바깥을 채우는 프레임 자동 조정, 원하는 수정을 말로 설명하는 AI 포토 검색 편집이 있습니다. 기능마다 조건이 다릅니다. 말로 고치는 편집은 만 18세 이상에 개인 계정이어야 하고, 일부 지역에서는 아직 쓸 수 없습니다.

네이버 지식iN에서 'AI 사진 편집'으로 검색되는 질문이 9월 24일 기준 1만1천 건이 넘고, 'AI 사진 보정'은 2,529건입니다.

■ 지우고 옮기기 — 매직 지우개

사진에서 원치 않는 물체를 없애려면 앱 하단의 '수정'에서 검색을 누르고 '매직 지우개' 같은 도구 이름을 입력합니다. 도구를 연 뒤 고칠 영역을 탭하거나 원을 그리거나 브러시로 칠하고 '지우기'를 누르면 됩니다.

지우기만 되는 건 아닙니다. 선택한 부분을 '이동'으로 옮길 수 있고, 길게 누른 뒤 두 손가락을 모아 크기를 바꿀 수도 있습니다.

■ 잘린 사진 넓히기 — 프레임 자동 조정

너무 잘렸거나 구도가 맞지 않는 사진이라면 '자르기'의 '프레임 자동 조정'을 씁니다. 구글은 이 기능이 AI를 사용해 필요에 따라 사진 일부를 채우거나 확장한다고 설명합니다. 찍히지 않은 부분을 AI가 그려 넣는다는 뜻입니다.

■ 말로 고치기 — AI 포토 검색

도구 이름을 몰라도 됩니다. 텍스트 상자에 사진을 어떻게 고치고 싶은지 적거나 마이크를 눌러 말하면 됩니다. 구글이 든 예는 '빛 반사 제거', '배경에서 방해 요소 제거'입니다.

대신 켜야 할 게 여럿입니다. 얼굴 그룹이 켜져 있어야 하고, 포토 설정의 환경설정 → '포토의 Gemini 기능'에서 Gemini 사용과 위치 추정을 켜야 합니다. AI 포토 검색을 켜면 검색 탭 이름이 'AI 검색'으로 바뀝니다.

한국에서 되는지는 직접 확인해야 합니다. 구글은 AI 포토 검색이 일부 국가와 지역에서 출시되고 있고 위치에 따라 기능이 다를 수 있다고만 적었습니다. 설정에서 AI 포토 검색을 고를 수 없다면 아직 쓸 수 없는 것일 수 있다는 안내도 있습니다. 실험 단계라 예상치 못한 결과나 부정확한 결과가 나올 수 있다는 점도 명시돼 있습니다.

■ 원본을 지키려면

편집을 마치면 저장 방법을 고르게 될 수 있습니다. '저장'은 원본 사진 자체에 변경사항을 저장하고, '사본으로 저장'은 수정한 새 사진을 만들고 원본은 그대로 둡니다.

원본에 저장한 수정은 '수정 되돌리기'로 실행취소할 수 있습니다. 사본으로 저장한 사진의 변경사항은 실행취소할 수 없다고 적혀 있습니다.

공유 앨범에서는 한 번 더 조심해야 합니다. '저장 및 공유'를 누르면 수정한 내용이 공유 앨범의 다른 사용자에게도 보입니다. 비공개로 두려면 '저장 안함'을 누르고 공유 앨범이 아닌 갤러리에서 고쳐야 합니다.

■ 내 사진은 어떻게 쓰이나

얼굴 그룹과 위치까지 켜야 한다면 내 사진은 어떻게 쓰일까요? 구글 포토 개인 정보 보호 허브는 사용자의 구글 포토 개인 정보로 구글 포토 외의 생성형 AI 모델을 학습시키지 않는다고 밝혔습니다.

사람이 보는지도 적혀 있습니다. 사용자가 의견을 보내거나 드물게 악용·피해를 해결하는 경우를 빼면 인적 검토자가 AI 포토 검색의 대답을 검토하지 않는다고 했습니다. 다만 포토 개선을 위해 AI 포토 검색 질문은 인적 검토자가 검토할 수 있다는 단서가 붙어 있습니다.

You can edit photos with AI in the Google Photos app on your phone. The Android app has Magic Eraser to remove unwanted objects, Auto frame to fill in beyond the photo with AI, and editing with Ask Photos, where you describe the change you want. Each has its own conditions. Editing by description requires being 18 or older with a personal account, and is not yet available in some regions.

On Naver's Q&A service, a search for 'AI photo editing' returns more than 11,000 questions as of September 24, and 'AI photo retouching' 2,529.

■ Erase and move - Magic Eraser

To remove an unwanted object, tap Edit at the bottom, then Search, and type a tool name such as Magic Eraser. With the tool open, tap, circle or brush the area to change, then tap Erase.

It does more than erase: Move shifts the selection, and touching and holding then pinching resizes it.

■ Widen a cropped photo - Auto frame

For a photo cropped too tight or badly framed, use Auto frame under Crop. Google says it uses AI to fill in or expand parts of the photo as needed - that is, AI draws in what the camera did not capture.

■ Edit by describing - Ask Photos

You need not know tool names. Describe how you want the photo changed in the text box, or tap the mic and say it. Google's examples: 'remove the glare' and 'remove distractions from the background.'

Several things must be on: Face Groups, plus Use Gemini in Photos and location estimates under Photos settings > Preferences > Gemini features in Photos. Turning on Ask Photos renames the Search tab to 'Ask.'

Whether it works in Korea you will need to check yourself. Google says only that Ask Photos is rolling out in select countries and regions and that features may vary by location; if you cannot select it in settings, it may not be available to you yet. It is experimental, and may give unexpected or inaccurate results.

■ Protecting the original

When you finish, you may be offered two ways to save: Save writes changes to the original photo itself, while Save as copy creates a new edited photo and leaves the original unchanged.

Edits saved to the original can be undone with Edit > Revert; changes to a photo saved as a copy cannot be undone.

Take extra care in shared albums: Save and share makes your edits visible to others in the album. To keep them private, tap Don't save and edit from your gallery instead of the shared album.

■ How your photos are used

If you must turn on Face Groups and location, how are your photos used? The Google Photos privacy hub says Google does not use your personal data in Google Photos to train generative AI models outside Google Photos.

On human review: except when you give feedback or in rare cases of abuse or harm, human reviewers do not review Ask Photos responses - though Ask Photos queries may be reviewed by humans to improve Photos.
