구글 포토 안드로이드 앱의 '만들기' 탭에는 AI 편집 도구가 있습니다. 영상의 배경과 분위기를 바꾸는 '동영상 리믹스', 사진 한 장을 짧은 영상으로 만드는 '사진으로 동영상 만들기'입니다. 동영상 리믹스는 60초 미만 영상에서 1~10초 구간만 바꿉니다. 만 18세 이상만 쓸 수 있고, 하루에 만들 수 있는 개수에도 한도가 있습니다.
네이버 지식iN에서 'AI 영상 편집'으로 검색되는 질문이 9월 24일 기준 1만5천 건이 넘습니다.
■ 먼저 볼 조건
구글 포토의 생성형 AI 도구를 쓰려면 만 13세 이상이어야 하고, 개인 구글 계정이 있어야 합니다. 워크스페이스나 학교 계정에서는 쓸 수 없습니다. 고치려는 사진은 백업돼 있어야 하고 네트워크 연결도 필요합니다.
하루에 생성할 수 있는 사진이나 동영상 개수는 제한돼 있습니다. 구글 AI 요금제를 사면 한도가 늘고, 프로나 울트라에서도 횟수를 다 쓰면 다음 날까지 기다려야 합니다. 일부 지역에서는 아직 쓸 수 없습니다.
■ 동영상 리믹스 — 배경·빛·화풍 바꾸기
하단의 '만들기'를 누른 뒤 템플릿을 고르거나 '도구' 섹션의 '동영상 리믹스'를 누릅니다. 동영상 리믹스는 만 18세 이상만 쓸 수 있습니다.
할 수 있는 건 세 갈래입니다. 배경을 해변의 일몰이나 커피숍 같은 장면으로 바꾸는 '스타일 변경', 골든아워나 몽환적인 빛 같은 조명 효과를 입히는 '필터', 애니메이션이나 수채화, 스케치북 같은 화풍을 입히는 '아트 스타일'입니다.
길이 제한이 있습니다. 60초 미만의 영상을 골라야 하고, 자르기 핸들로 1~10초 길이의 구간을 선택해 그 부분을 바꿉니다.
비율도 봐야 합니다. 9:16이나 16:9로 찍은 영상을 고칠 수 있고, 다른 비율은 가운데를 기준으로 자동으로 잘립니다. 정사각형 영상은 기본적으로 9:16으로 맞춰집니다.
■ 사진으로 동영상 만들기 — 한 장을 움직이게
하단의 '만들기'에서 '사진으로 동영상 만들기'를 누르고 사진을 고른 뒤 효과를 고르거나 프롬프트를 씁니다. '미세한 움직임'은 손을 흔들거나 미소 짓는 것 같은 사실적인 움직임을 더하고, 'I'm Feeling Lucky'는 춤 같은 큰 움직임이나 색종이, 풍선 같은 특수 효과를 넣기도 합니다.
원하는 움직임이나 장면을 글로 적는 텍스트 프롬프트 기능은 영문 도움말 기준으로 처음에는 만 18세 이상에게만 제공됩니다. 이렇게 만든 영상에는 이제 오디오가 들어갈 수 있습니다.
알아 둘 점이 두 가지 있습니다. 가로 사진을 고르면 세로 영상에 맞게 자동으로 잘립니다. 그리고 만든 영상은 사진을 찍은 날짜가 아니라 영상을 만든 날짜로 저장됩니다.
■ AI 없이 되는 기본 편집
길이를 줄이거나 속도를 바꾸는 데도 AI가 필요할까요? 구글 포토의 동영상 수정에서 자르기 핸들로 길이를 자르고, 가로세로 비율을 바꾸고, 원하는 구간만 골라 2배나 4배로 빠르게 하거나 ¼배, ½배로 늦출 수 있습니다.
자르기, 기울기 보정, 필터 같은 일부 편집 기능은 안드로이드 6.0 이상에 RAM 1GB 이상인 기기에서만 쓸 수 있습니다.
■ 결과가 마음에 들지 않으면
생성형 AI 도구라 결과가 늘 같지는 않습니다. 구글은 이 기능들에서 예상치 못한 결과나 부정확한 결과가 나올 수 있다고 적었습니다. 리믹스에서는 '재생성'으로 같은 템플릿의 다른 결과를 받을 수 있습니다. 템플릿은 정기적으로 바뀌어 일부는 시간이 지나면 변경되거나 삭제될 수 있습니다.

The Create tab in the Google Photos Android app has AI editing tools: Video remix, which changes a video's background and mood, and Photo to video, which turns a single photo into a short clip. Video remix changes only a 1-10 second segment of a video under 60 seconds. It is for users 18 and over, and daily generations are capped.
On Naver's Q&A service, a search for 'AI video editing' returns more than 15,000 questions as of September 24.
■ Conditions first
Google Photos' generative AI tools require being 13 or older and a personal Google account; they are not available on Workspace or school accounts. The photo must be backed up, and you need a network connection.
The number of photos or videos you can generate per day is limited. A Google AI plan raises it, and even on Pro or Ultra, once you run out you wait until the next day. Some regions do not have it yet.
■ Video remix - background, light, art style
Tap Create at the bottom, then pick a template or tap Video remix in the Tools section. Video remix is only available to users 18 and over.
Three kinds of change: restyle swaps the background for a scene like a beach sunset or a coffee shop; filters apply lighting such as golden hour or dreamy light; art styles apply looks like anime, watercolor or sketchbook.
Length is limited: choose a video under 60 seconds, then use the trim handles to select a 1-10 second segment to transform.
Mind the ratio: videos shot at 9:16 or 16:9 can be edited; other ratios are center-cropped automatically, and square videos default to 9:16.
■ Photo to video - make one photo move
Tap Create > Photo to video, pick a photo, then choose an effect or write a prompt. Subtle movements adds realistic motion like waving or smiling; I'm feeling lucky may add bigger motion such as dancing, or effects like confetti and balloons.
The text prompt feature of Photo to video is initially available only to users 18 or over, according to the English help page. Clips made this way may now contain audio.
Two things to know: landscape photos are cropped automatically to fit a vertical video, and the video is saved with the date you created it, not the date the photo was taken.
■ Basic edits without AI
Do you need AI just to trim or change speed? In Google Photos' video editor you can trim with the handles, change the aspect ratio, and speed up a selected part to 2x or 4x or slow it to 1/4x or 1/2x.
Some editing features such as trim, straighten and filters work only on devices running Android 6.0 or later with at least 1 GB of RAM.
■ If you don't like the result
Generative results vary. Google says these features may produce unexpected or inaccurate results. In remix, Regenerate gives another result from the same template. Templates are updated regularly, and some may change or be removed over time.
