정부가 만드는 AI가 12월에 나온다.

근데 챗봇만 나오는 게 아니다.

'너 이거 받을 수 있어'라고 먼저 알려주는 쪽이 더 눈에 띈다..

21일 한국경제 보도에 따르면, 과학기술정보통신부가 국산 AI 모델을 쓴 범용 챗봇 서비스를 연말에 출시한다.

민간 기업 2~3곳을 선정한다. 서비스가 하나가 아니라 둘 이상 나온다는 뜻이다.

9월부터 베타 서비스, 12월 말 정식 출시가 목표다.

뭐가 나오는 건가요?

두 갈래다.

  • ① 범용 챗봇 — 챗GPT·제미나이처럼 일상적인 질문과 문서 작성에 쓰는 것
  • ② 공공 AI 에이전트 — 이용 가능한 공공서비스를 먼저 알려주고, 자격 요건을 확인해 신청까지 돕는 것

①은 익숙하다. 이미 쓰고 있는 게 있으니까.

②가 새롭다. 기사 설명대로면 정부 정책을 단순 안내하는 수준을 넘어선다.

몰라서 못 받고 지나간 지원이 얼마나 될지 생각하면.. 이쪽이 더 반갑다.

GPU는 얼마나 주나요?

엔비디아 B200급 GPU 512개를 선정 기업에 나눠 지원한다.

2개 기업이 뽑히면 각각 256개, 3개 기업이면 256개·128개·128개로 배분한다.

3곳을 뽑으면 두 곳은 절반만 받는 구조다. 몇 곳을 뽑느냐가 그냥 숫자 문제가 아니라는 뜻이다.

돈은 내야 하나요?

필수 기능은 무료, 고도화 기능은 유료로 운영된다.

공진호 과기정통부 인공지능정책기획과장은 우리 AI로 전 국민이 활용할 수 있는 서비스를 가장 잘 제공할 수 있는 기업을 선정하는 것이 최우선 목표라고 밝혔다.

왜 지금이냐면

중국 문샷AI의 '키미 K3'가 시장을 흔든 직후다. 에너지경제신문은 이 충격 속에서 한국형 모델의 승산을 짚었다.

배경훈 부총리는 대한민국도 프런티어 AI 모델을 확보하지 못하면 언젠가는 미·중 AI에 종속될 수 있다고 강조했다.

과기정통부는 '독자 AI 파운데이션 모델'(독파모) 개발도 함께 추진 중이다.

무료 챗봇 하나 더 생기는 얘기로 보이지만, 내 눈엔 '남의 AI에만 기대지는 않겠다'는 쪽 이야기로 읽힌다.

내가 실제로 쓸 수 있나

12월이다. 필수 기능이 공짜인 한국어 AI가 최소 둘 생긴다.

지금 월 구독료를 내고 있다면 한 번 비교해볼 시점이 온다는 뜻이다.

특히 ② 공공 AI 에이전트가 제대로 돌아가면, 지원 제도 찾아 헤매는 시간이 줄어든다.

다만 어느 기업이 뽑힐지도, 성능이 어느 정도일지도 아직 모른다.

베타가 9월이니 그때 한 번 써보고 판단하면 되겠다..

The government's own AI arrives in December.

And it isn't just a chatbot.

The part that tells you "hey, you qualify for this" is the more interesting half..

Per a July 21 report by the Korea Economic Daily, the Ministry of Science and ICT will launch a general-purpose chatbot built on domestic AI models by year-end.

Two or three private companies will be selected. That means more than one service, not just a single winner.

Beta service starts in September, with full release targeted for late December.

What exactly is coming?

Two tracks.

  • ① A general chatbot — for everyday questions and document writing, like ChatGPT or Gemini
  • ② A public-service AI agent — telling you which public services you can use, checking eligibility, and helping you apply

The first one is familiar. Most of us already use something like it.

The second is new. As described in the report, it goes beyond simply explaining government policy.

Thinking about how much support goes unclaimed simply because nobody knew.. that's the part I want.

How many GPUs are they providing?

512 Nvidia B200-class GPUs, split among the selected companies.

If two are picked, 256 each. If three, it's 256 / 128 / 128.

So with three winners, two of them get half as much. The number of winners isn't just a number.

Will it cost anything?

Core features will be free; advanced features paid.

Gong Jin-ho, director of AI policy planning at the ministry, said the top priority is selecting the companies best able to deliver a service every citizen can use, built on Korean AI.

Why now?

It comes right after China's Moonshot AI shook the market with Kimi K3. Energy Economy Daily framed the plan against that shock.

Deputy Prime Minister Bae Kyung-hoon warned that without frontier AI models of its own, Korea could eventually end up dependent on US and Chinese AI.

The ministry is also pushing development of sovereign AI foundation models.

It looks like just one more free chatbot. To me it reads as something else — a decision not to rely solely on someone else's AI.

Can I actually use this?

December. At least two Korean-language AI services with free core features.

If you're paying a monthly subscription right now, that's a moment worth comparing.

And if the public-service agent actually works, less time hunting for programs you might qualify for.

We still don't know which companies get picked, or how good it will be.

The beta lands in September, so we can judge it then..
